This is a small community centre situated in the heart of the community in the grounds of Lismore primary school. As the programme (below) shows we have a diverse range of activities for all ages. However we are always open to new ideas and suggestions and would welcome and encourage both new members and activities. Anyone who has an interest they may wish to share with others or a wish to see a particular club or activity added to our programme should get in touch by telephoning the above number. We would welcome your suggestions.
Although we have a small staff of part time youth workers, most of the activities in the centre are organised and supported by local volunteers.
The main thrust of our effort at present is focused on activities for children
and young people.
Recent additions to our programme include Fundraising Family Bingo (Wednesdays
from 6-30pm) and Craft classes for children i.e. Knitting, Sewing, Crochet
etc (Thursday evening 6-15pm) and Study Skills for adults (Thursday 1pm)
Forthcoming events in December 2007 include Bingo members' party evening,
Community Christmas Lunch and youth and children's Christmas Disco.
Dates and times for these events are yet to be finalised but will be advertised
when available.
As well as our weekly clubs/classes we offer various other events throughout
the year
We have a Scottish evening including Evening meal and Ceilidh. This normally
happens in February or early March. This event is always well attended and
caters for all ages in the community.
Our summer playscheme is one such activity which runs for 5 weeks during
the school holidays. Around 60 children register and enjoy a varied programme
including day trips, outings, art and craft workshops, puppet theatre, face
painting and so on. The playscheme runs Monday - Friday
10am - 2-30pm. This varies when we are out on a day trip as we usually
arrive back between 4pm and 5pm. This event is staffed by local volunteers
who work tirelessly for the enjoyment and safety of the children who attend.
Hopefully the above has given a flavour of what we are about. The main objective
however is to provide and support events and activities for the community.
To this extent We finish where we started and invite anyone with either ideas
or suggestions which could add to or improve our current programme to contact
the centre and speak to us. Your input would be most welcome.
